YEAR 4 CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
AUTUMN 1 CURRICULUM MAP
PE
This half term Year 4 will be doing PE all afternoon on Fridays. This will involve either circuit training or invasion games followed by a sports club that the children will choose.
Homework
Homework will be set every Friday to be returned the following Wednesday. Homework will consist of:
- A grammar or comprehension activity (sent home in their paper file)
- A maths activity (set via mymaths)
- Spelling practise (Spellings tested every Wednesday)
- Daily reading
- Times table practice
'Daily' activities should be completed in short bursts (5-10 minutes each), this is most impactful and respects the children's need for free time. We recognise and prioritise their wellbeing, as well as their hobbies and interests outside of school.
In addition, all children will be expected to bring their signed reading records into school each day. If you have any difficulty completing any of your homework, please ask for help before it is due in.
Times tables
By the end of Year 4, children are expected to be fluent in multiplication facts up to 12x12. As a result, this is of high importance during school hours, however, the most progress is seen when children also practise their times tables at home. We ask that children complete 5-10 minutes practice every day. To do so, they could:
- Play on TT Rockstars
- Play 'hit the button' on topmarks
- Use flashcard booklets sent home for over learning of key facts
- Sticking facts to walls
- Practising facts in daily life (e.g. in the car)
